LO4: Drafts of music video
FIRST DRAFT
This is the first draft to our music video- New Model Solider; Foster Kenzie. Up to now we have started to put all of our footage in order to our story board and the songs narrative. We have started jump cutting into the beat of the song to allow the viewers to be within the pace of the song. Also adding slow motion creates the haunting effect we wanted to use. We have also created cross cuts between the narrative and performances.
What we need to do
We need to add more effects such as jittering to connote ghostly and haunting feelings. We also need to make sure that we keep in time to the music as it has a very different pace such as slow then fast. More jump cuts need to be added to create the pace of the music video.
SECOND DRAFT
We have developed the music video further. We have created a lot more jump cuts, which has created a fast pace that fits into the music. We have also started using slow motion on lyrics that are dragged, to make the video and music match, to emphasis it. Layering has been used and the opacity has been turned down to create the ghost effect. A lot more footage has been uploaded to create crosscuts between the narrative and performance. We have stabilized a lot of clips to make the shakiness of the clips more normal.
What we need to do
We are wanting to try a black and white effect on the whole video, and if that doesn't work out will can use the black and white effect on either the performance or narrative. We need to add more special effects, such as thuds, ghost effects and wiggles through the clips to create this unusual, freaky feel. A lot more jump cuts need to be made instead of dragging clips out.
THIRD DRAFT
On our final draft we edited the narrative in black and white to give it that gloomy effect. We also added more effects such as fading, dipping into black, thuds to make the video freaky, which were all our initial intentions. We have added a lot more jump cuts in to match the pace of the music. More footage has been added to this draft to build up the narrative and crosscuts between performances and the narrative. A lot more ghosting effects have been made to create the reinforce the creepy lyrics.
What we need to do
A few more jump cuts could be added to long clips to break it up and match the pace of the music. The contrast needs to be edited for the black and white clips to make it more gloomy looking. More special effects and sequences need to be added to reinforce the creepiness.

LO4: Evidence of editing
Please note: 21-27 seconds into the music video, I edited however did not get the evidence. What I did was by using the razor tool, cut parts of the video to create the edit of Jump Cutting. I also changed the speed towards the end, to create a slow motion effect, which matched the pace of the music video.
This is a screen record of my editing.
Screen grabs of me editing.
Here I have been using the razor tool to create jump cuts. Using the razor tool cut parts of my clips up, which creates a fast pace.
This is a screen shot to show the effect the layering and opacity change has to create the ghost effect. It really reinforces the lyrics and makes the video spooky.

Carrying on creating jump cuts as well as cross cuts using the razor tool. I did this edit at the best parts of the music that had certain beats that could create jump cuts to.
This is a screen shot of me using the razor tool to create jump cuts and crosscuts between the narrative and performance.
Here I am layering the same clips but different times to create a ghost effect.
I changed the opacity on these to screen shots to create this ghostly/creepy effect. The opacity makes all the layers visual. I did this by clicking on the clip and clicking on effect controls and turned the opacity down.
In this screen shot I have doubled clicked on my clip and brought up the speed and duration settings. I turned the speed down, which automatically turned down the duration. The slow motion went with dragged lyrics.
This is a screenshot of me playing with the brightness and contrast for the black and white effect I added onto the narrative. I did this by clicking on the clip and clicking effect control and the tools appeared.
This is the result of the black and white and playing with the contrast.
This is a screen shot of me stabilizing a clip that was to shaky due to handheld filming, first I had to nest the clip in order for the stabilizer to work.
This is a screenshot of me using the razor tool to cut clips in time with the music to create jump cuts. This also created crosscuts between the narrative and the performance.
By using the razor tool I was able to cut clips and create jump cuts, so that the video matches the pace of the music.
Here I was adding footage and making sure that the narrative followed the lyrics. I used the razor tool to cut this clip up to add to my sequence.
This is a screen shot of me adding final footage and using the razor tool to remove parts of the clips that didn't suit and add clips that matched the narrative.
This is a screen shot of me layering clips to create the ghost effect we have throughout our music video. I used the razor tool to cut the clip and put different parts on top of each other and changed the opacity in the effect controls.
Here I have added a new clip onto my timeline; however the clip hold sound, which causes issues. To get rid of this I simply clicked the right side of my mouse and clicked unlink. I then deleted the bottom clip.
This is a screen shot of me changing the opacity from a layer down to create the ghostly effect, which added to the creepiness of the video. I did this on effect controls.
Again, I am removing the sound from the clip by unlinking the two and deleting the bottom one, so only the audio was to be heard.
This is the unlink button I used to remove the sound from the clips.
Here I am changing the speed of the clip to create a slow motion effect. I did this by changing the speed, which turned down the duration.
Here is a close up of the settings.
I was able to create sequence, which are the ones in green to create special effects such as making the clips expand and thud, which create the freakish effect that reinforce the meaning and lyrics of the song.

LO2 Evidence for LO2 Company Logo
The purpose of creating this logo was to resemble our identity. The graphic design and typography is essential information about our company that allows our target audience to identify us. The purpose of the image is that it signifies the number 3, which is the amount of people in the company. This makes the logo personal to us who made the company. As well the background image works with the name of the company, which resembles our company.

LO2- Shot List
A shot list helps to keep the production organised and time limited. It is an important part of planning as it corresponds to production. Planning and organising shots helps to visualise the production, making it more efficient to us and the actors/band.
Shot lists are very important in both the planning and production stages of filming a music video. They are very helpful to look back on when filming so you know what you will need to do next, as well as being able to influence your storyboards. In the editing stage you will be able to look back on the shot list to create continuity for the film.
To give us ideas for our shot list we can look at other music videos and the angles/shot types they used to create their vision.
Shot list MADDIE
- Wide shot of pub from other side of street, a couple of seconds pass and then Dave steps out.
- Goes to close up on Dave's face, looks slightly nervous- perspiring.
-Cuts back to wide shot of pub and Dave stood in the same spot outside, as he stands there we see two men pass (the other members of the band) by walking and chatting coming on from the left side of the screen and going off on the right. Two seconds after they are off screen Dave begins to walk towards the left of the screen- on beats cut to performance and back.
- Between this scene there are future shots of the music video's narrtive cut in to foreshadow the narrative (Plus to further the mood and the protagonist thoughts)
- Several seconds of performance from plug from front.
Over the shoulder of Dave walking.
- There will be cuts to close ups of different places around Dave to foreshadow that he is Foster Kenzie committing these crimes or characteristics.
- Ghosting of the band's prefromance could be used in certain scenes and shots to make sure we have the same mood kept in the music video.
- Medium shot of an alley, camera at shoulder height- see two silhouettes in the alley, one mugging the other. Dave walks into view, looks over to the alley.
- Performance for a few seconds.
BEN
- Medium close up low angle on Dave's face from a handheld camera,h see his reaction and then he begins to move away from camera, handheld camera follows his at the back.
- Cuts to long shot in front of him, he continues walking straight towards the camera until his shirt obscures its view.
- Starts black at a straight on medium long shot, realise darkness is Dave's shirt and as he walks away from the camera with his back to it the view of him entering a shop (probably Nisa local) can be seen.
- Few seconds of performance
- Low angle, tracking, of his face as he enters the store and begins to walk around.
- Cuts to medium close up of Dave's hand reaching for a can of food, turns to split screen and both hands reaching for different food cans on the shelf.
- Wide shot of Foster Kenzie stood on the left looking at can and Dave stood in the background having noticed Kenzie, Dave puts the can back in the background. Foster Kenzie walks off screen.
- Few seconds of performance
- Handheld camera close up of Kenzie walking out of store, camera tracks Kenzie putting the can in his pocket as he leaves.
LAUREN
- Dave leaving shop there is jump cuts from different angles of him walking that change to the music's beat. Starts with a medium shot from the end of the aisle as he leaves the store.
- Cuts to a handheld camera following him from a medium close up from behind as he walks out of the store to pursue Foster Kenzie.
- Few seconds of performance
- Close up on his face of him looking around for Kenzie, we see him seem to spot Kenzie and he walks off-screen (camera pans) towards an alleyway.
- Wide shot from opposite end of alley as Dave enters it, then Kenzie coming up behind Dave and knocking him to the ground.
- Few seconds of performance
- High angle medium shot from above Dave, lying on the ground and clearly concussed, opening his eyes and squinting above him.
- Low angle from Dave's perspective, Kenzie walks into camera out of focus, he throws his hood down and his face comes into focus in time for the watcher to realise it is Dave.
Assessed by Jai
1 strength of this shot list is that it shows a wide variety of angles. I can clearly see what shot types they will use and. I like the way you have explained how long the shot will be in the scene for.
Another thing that i think is really good with this shot list is that i can clearly see what character are in the shot as you have the name.
I would say that your shot list doesn't need much improvement however have gaps between the text when you move to a different location also add in more editing techniques.
Overall on the improvements and positive feedback we have gained we are going to improve on adding in more editing techniques and make locations clear.

LO2 From Huge Man (Let their be light productions)
1. Explain Job role- director
3 Question I am wanting to ask
Whats the most important part of planning
What camera movement do you think is most effective in a classical indie rock music video?
Whats the hardest thing about filming and editing products?
