LO1 Notes


Purpose
 The purpose of music videos are to promote new bands/hits.
Inform, educate, entertain.
Products are a form of entertainment
The purpose of a music video is to sell an artists.

Mise-en-scene- characters: lighting, costume/makeup, locations, gestures, props, iconography instumentrs, jewellery  3-4
narrative/ structure- hybrid - what is the narrative about (Linear)
Editing- Jump cutting to match the beat of the music/ black and white filter for indie videos
Camera work- angles example ( high angle- subordinate, low angle- dominance) Shot types example  (close up- close up of the artist (recognisable of the artist) Wide shot- show the unity of the group/ location/ performing.
Movement- example  Panning, tilt, tracking, Hand held
Sound
Diegetic- natural to the story world (diegesis)
Non- diegetic
Connotes/denotes



M- music matches the visuals (Jump cutting- editing)
I- Iconography (recognisable/ represents the genre of music) 1. Guitar 2. Microphone 3. B+W
L- Locations (local venues, big open spaces, in a stage, studio (mise en scene)
C- Close ups ( camera work) connotes its importance
V- voyeurism- pleasure of watching someone without them knowing they are being watched
